A welcome from our new Community Team!

On the back of an excellent season for all those involved with Cambridge Rugby club in 2015-16, we aim to continue to build on these successes by ensuring that the Cambridgeshire community become an increasing part of our Rugby Club. Our new community team will be the driving force delivering the positive values of our club and we hope that you will join us throughout the season to support your local club.

Our vision, as a community team, is to continue to provide inclusive rugby and multisport programmes to Primary & Secondary Schools, Universities and other community projects in Cambridgeshire. If you are a school or club interested in receiving any coaching that we can offer, please do not hesitate to get in touch for more details. We are also extremely interested in reaching out to new parts of the community and would like to hear from you if you wish to get involved or just wish to find out more about what we can offer.

In the recent months, our new community team has been delivering a new initiative, funded by Living Sport, in 8 Schools across Cambridgeshire. In May 2016, we began an 8 week project, delivering over 64 hours of coaching to more than 100 school girls in Years 7, 8 and 9. As a community team, we feel it is more important than ever to provide opportunities for all to get involved in Rugby Union. Based on the success of this programme, we have been granted further funding from Living Sport to run four new Girl’s Rugby Clubs for those aged 14 years and above. These sessions will run for 23 weeks of the year at 4 sites and are open to all in the Cambridgeshire area that wish to try their hand at Rugby Union. For more information on when and where these sessions will begin please follow the link.

Our community team is led and coached by 1st XV players Albert Portsmouth and Ben Penfold. Albert has been a 1st XV player at the club for 6 years and has recently obtained a Master’s degree in Sport Development Management. Ben re-joins the club after a season away with Cinderford, where he worked full time for the Worcester Warriors Community Team. If you wish to discuss any community ideas with us, please do contact them.
