CRUFC SENIOR RUGBY

CRUFC is the Eastern Counties most successful rugby club. We currently run six senior teams at both competitive and social levels. The club has a long and successful history of competing and winning the Eastern Counties Cups, the Cambridgeshire Cups, Canterbury Shield, Merit Leagues and National Colts Cup.

The 1st XV plays in National League 1 which places it in the top 42 clubs in England. Players train with and are selected from the club's National League Squad. The club is very proud that its National League Squad is made up of players brought infrom other clubs as well as players developed through the club's own mini, youth and development squads.

The Wanderers (2nd XV) team is currently suspended.

The Adventurers (3rd XV) is the club's third competitive adult side and plays in the Green King Leagues. The goal of the Adventurers is to provide a stepping stone from colts rugby into the senior game as well as providing a reasonable level of competitive rugby for other members of the club who do not play at 1st and 2nd team level.

The Colts (under 19s) has a long history of developing exceptional players who have gone on to play rugby at the highest levels (Internationals, Premiership and CRUFC 1st XV) and who have also won many competitions for the club including the National Colts Plate and the Eastern Counties Colts Cup.

The club also runs two senior social sides (the Exiles and the Vanguards). The goal of these teams is to provide social rugby for those players who just enjoy playing the sport for the fun of it! The Exiles play in the Greene King Merit League against many other local teams. The Vanguards play a full season of "friendly" fixtures and is predominantly run for players who are over 35 years old, but who still enjoy a match and the social camaraderie on a Saturday. This is also where you will often find many former 1st XV players.

CRUFC JUNIOR RUGBY

The senior Club is solidly supported by a thriving mini, midi and youth rugby section, formed as one of the first in England and a leading facility in the Eastern Region. Founded over 30 years ago, this group attracts up to 350 players every Sunday of the season with individual year groups from Under 7 up to Under 17.

All of the coaches are qualified and, as required by the latest legislation, have CRB Certification issued by the police authority.

Every Sunday, from the beginning of September to April (with a short break at Christmas) there is either training or a match to be played. Amongst the older age groups, there will often be a tour at the end of the season.

The Cambridge Mini Festival attracts Clubs from a wide area and is held every year on the Sunday before Easter. There will often be 750 children playing in a tournament with competition for all age groups from Under 7 to Under 12.

For more information on Mini and Youth Rugby, see the main entry on this website.
