Barking Preview

With Christmas coming, this week sees local derbies across the league. Cambridge unfortunately are away - but only need to make the short trip to Barking.

This time last season Barking were flying high undefeated in their first season in NL1 looking for back to back promotions. Cambridge were playing well, on their way to a third place finish. However, much water has flown under the bridge since then. Barking failed to accumulate bonus points and London Scottish caught up and in an epic game at Goresbrook a last minute try for the Scots clinched promotion.

Barking have only won four games this season - though one was a shock victory against league leaders Ealing. Cambridge's current form is not wonderful, having only won one of their last 6 fixtures.

Cambridge just edged the home game in September - both sides scoring five tries but lost both fixtures last season. The previous games were in the 2006/7 season, when Cambridge won both encounters.

The Barking crowd is friendly but passionate. The banter from the balcony is legendary. Access by car or public transport is easy - just off the A12 or a short walk from Becontree tube.

British College Rugby 10s

The Eastern Region of British College 10s Rugby were held at CRUFC on Wednesday 23rd November 2011

With over 200 competitors for the Men's Championship and 60 for the Ladies, making up 19 teams (16 Mens and 3 Womens) who come from Further Education Colleges across the region. Teams came from as far as North Norfolk as well as South Essex in competition with more local sides including both Hills Road and Long Road Sixth Forms from the City.

Some great rugby was played, with SEEVIC from Southend taking the spoils in both championships

Tournament organiser, Nigel Brown, said "It's great to see so many Colleges competing this year and the standard of rugby was very high. Cambridge Rugby Club were terrific hosts and the referees (current CRUFC squad players) were an absolute credit to the Club - many thanks to Tracey and Bob for organising the mechanics of the event - I am sure the Championships will be back next year."
