Sat 2 Sep 15:00 - Pre-season Full time

Coventry 2's 40 - Cambridge 2's 47

Hard fought, well earned win

Cambridge 2's travelled to play Coventry 2's in both teams' last pre-season game. Both teams will play each other (home and away) in Zoo Shield Div. 1.
Played at Broadstreet RFC (also Wasps' training ground), the game was played in very warm conditions on a fairly hard surface, which led to a fast paced, end to end affair.
The coaches, Simon Leader and Darrell Ball, had to make a few changes and additions to the match day squad, due to sickness and late unavailability.
Bringing new players together is never easy, but this pre-season game, gave the perfect opportunity to further 'blood' players new to the club, as well as promoting a couple of boys from our 3's. What came about was a hugely entertaining, hard fought, well earned win for the guys in Blood & Sand.
All 21 players put in a good 'shift' when called on. Pierre Peres orchestrated well at 9; Matt Meeks (playing at loose head) made good ground with frequent bulldozer like runs (great try too Meeksy!). Tom Read (captain for the day) led by example at 8. Brian Carroll promoted from the 3's and Ewen Kingdon both did the hard graft at back row for a half each.

Final score? We decided to go with the referee's score (after all, he's in charge!)
Coventry 40 (6 tries, 5 conv.) - Cambridge 47 (7 tries, 6 conv.)

Roll on next week; home to Chinnor. 2.00pm KO.
