The Colts struggled to deal with the size and mobility of the Suffolk side, but fought back well in the second half to finish strongly.
The Colts took on what was effectively a Suffolk County side in the Cup. Playing against the pick of Ipswich, Hadleigh and Lowestoft, Cambridge struggled to cope with a large and experienced pack in the first half. Some of the Ipswich players have already played for the Ipswich 1st XV this season.
The first half took the visitors by surprise. Busy shaking off the long car journey Cambridge weren't able to stop the early onslaught. Finding themselves 5 tries down they could have been forgiven if their heads had dropped, but not this team. They kept working hard and as the home side started to fade towards the end of the first half Cambridge came into their own. Scoring at the close it gave them the hope they needed in the second half.
The second half was all Cambridge. Fighting back and taking the game to the home side, they fought for every inch of territory. A single converted try was the reward for the tenacious Cambridge side giving as they finished strongly and perhaps ruing the fact that they'd let the Barbarians get so far ahead in the first half.
