The final match of the season saw Cambridge face two of the best teams from the Eastern Counties. We knew it was going to be tough but not having played either team for some time were unsure of what we would be facing. Playing both Bury St Edmunds and Wymondham, over a total game time of 60 minutes, the battle of the Counties was underway.
Cambridge started strongly against a determined Bury St Edmunds team and for much of the first half, Cambridge’s defence did not allow Bury into the Cambridge half - a strong and eager defence was working well until Cambridge was judged to be off side at the ruck. A kick by the Bury 10 bounced kindly to put them on the Cambridge 5 metre line. Bury won the line and attacked the Cambridge try line, a sustained defence kept them out for a period but a missed tackle by Cambridge allowed the home team to cross the try line. Cambridge went into half time 5 - nil down. The second half saw more strong defence from both sides, with neither team crossing the line. A disappointing result for Cambridge but a well deserved 5 - nil win for Bury St Edmunds.
