Welcome to Cambridge Rugby Club’s Under 14 team page.
We offer youth rugby to children who, as of September 3st 2016, are under 14 years old (year 9 at school).
Youth rugby for this age-group is essentially full on rugby – 15 a side, competitive scrums, but non-competitive line-outs. This age group was the first age group to proceed through the RFU New Rules of Play that provided an incremental introduction of contact from the U8s to the current year. This provided a great foundation for these players to develop skills while incrementally introducing more contact in rucks and mauls with a gradual introduction of the scrum
Our goal is for the children to learn rugby skills in a safe environment while still enjoying the competitive nature of the game. We focus on teamwork, spatial awareness, decision-making, discipline and sportsmanship, all within a safe environment. Our experience with the New RFU principles has been very positive: old and new players alike enjoy the game and are developing great rugby skills. At this stage of development we maximise participation of all players and continue to introduce new players into the age group each year.
We have a fantastic group of children with over 40 players coming out on most Sundays. Coaching them is really rewarding, seeing them develop week on week. The coaches are all volunteers: with many Level 1 qualified and three are also Eastern Counties qualified referees. We have a great group of parents who come along to training each week and volunteer to help with many aspects of running the team. Last year we toured to Italy which was a huge success.
Our season starts on the first Sunday in September and finishes in April. We train Sunday at 11:00AM and Thursday evenings from 6:00PM - 7:00PM, with a break for Christmas and Easter. During the year we have plenty of regional matches and tournaments. Please come and see us on Sunday morning, or drop us a line for further information.
