Another nice day as the Colts opened their Eastern Counties Cup competition with a good victory over neighbours Shelford.
A different Shelford to the one beaten earlier in the season, with more beef up front and a desire to put right the earlier result and within Ten minutes they scored a well worked try in the corner. The conversion missed, a feature of the game with Eight tries and no conversions despite five conversions very kickable. Within the next fifteen minutes Cambridge three quarters took control as first Ellis Parry ran in from over forty yards. Chris Gee finished off a good move along the line before Peter Grieve (still hungover) at last side stepped his opposite number before scoring just outside the posts. (missed kick). 15 - 5 at half time.
An enterprising kick and chase by the debutant U17 Mike Green and Cambridge were in control??. A lot of pressiure and great defending from Cambridge before Shelford scored in the corner. A good three quater move and Chris Gee ran in for the fifth try and despite continued Shelford pressure, who scored another try Cambridge confidently held on. Many thanks to the U17s for supplying players.
