As you will no doubt be aware all rugby activities have been forced to close following the announcement from the RFU, this has resulted in us temporarily shutting the club down for the next couple of months at least.

We have redeployed our community team to help out those that need help within the community by offering assistance with shopping, collections etc. As a reminder please do contact if you’re facing difficulties. They will be pleased to help.

Rest assured the committee are meeting “virtually” on a regular basis to manage the situation the best we can but ...

With our income streams cut off for now we have taken steps to reduce or cut costs wherever possible. However, running the club has significant costs that cannot be turned off and this presents us with a very difficult position.

Like most clubs we have a certain reliance on our generous sponsors many of whom will be suffering the same issues. So, I believe it is right that we do not solely rely on their continued support although I am sure many will be able to maintain some level of generosity.

We are obviously not alone in this. Most clubs will be suffering the same problems as us and I would expect we are now all in the territory where those with the strongest support will be the best positioned to continue when we can.

Cambridge Rugby has always had a great club spirit and now more than ever we need to draw on that heritage to ensure that the club emerges from this unprecedented global crisis stronger than ever.

We all (members, players, parents, coaches, staff and volunteers) need to pull together.

How can you all help?

With the sudden collapse in our income we now find ourselves in need of financial support. Having scrutinized our finances for the next 3 months, the Committee assess that we need £40,000 to see us through this crisis.

We have therefore set up a Go Fund Me page in the hope that the generosity of our supporters will enable is to reach this target.

In addition, there are a few other ways you could help our club:

  1. We request that if at all possible you renew your Membership subscriptions, these prices are the same as this year and avoid any increase that may need to come in – please contact Deborah –

  2. New Debentures Memberships are available – please contact Deborah –

  3. We have put our cause on the EasyFunding website where you can easily raise funds for the club by signing up to easyfundraising and add us as your good cause, find the store though the site and shop as normal. When you make a purchase, we get a free donation at no extra cost to you. Retailers include, amongst others, Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and M&S. It can be used via the website or app and you can set up a reminder so it alerts you when you shop with one of the participating retailers. Use the link below and refer to others

We are of course exploring all the Government, RFU, etc funding help that may be available for us to use however this will not be immediately available and we need to address our liabilities to staff that rely on their income from the club.

If you have any suggestion for help that is not covered here, then please do not hesitate to contact Gary Barr

I believe as a club we have come a long way in the last 5 years, and we were on the cusp of delivering one of the most successful seasons on the field across all levels and age groups whilst off it we have seen all floodlighting replaced and increased provision to pitches 3 & 4. We look forward to seeing them put to use!

If the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us anything - it’s that it’s going to take all of us pulling together to get through this safe and sound. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Please stay safe and follow all the Government guideline and wishing you and those close to you the very best.

Rob Dean, CRUFC Chairman
